I tried to call the Social Security Office in Erie for a simple question. I dialed the number 1-877-405-2887. When it was answered by their automatic equipment, I had to make several menu selections before I was finally told to press zero to speak with the next available operator. After pressing zero, I was informed that all their operators were busy. THEN, INSTEAD OF ASKING ME TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT AVAILABLE OPERATOR, THEY JUST SAID TO CALL BACK LATER, AND HUNG UP MY CALL!
At approximately 11:20 AM on Friday, October 11, 2019, I tried to call the Social Security office in Erie, PA for a simple question.
I dialed the number 1-877-405-2887. The phone was answered by their automatic equipment which had me go through several menu selections before I was finally told to press zero to speak with the next available operator.
After pressing zero, I was informed that all the operators were busy, and INSTEAD OF ASKING ME TO HOLD FOR THE NEXT AVAILABLE OPERATOR, I WAS SIMPLY TOLD TO CALL BACK LATER, AND THEN THE CALL WAS TERMINATED!
I certainly would have been happy to hold until an operator was available to take my call. But I was not given that option.
That is truly the most rediculuous way to handle calls I've ever heard of! Unless you just happen to call at the exact moment when none of the operators are busy, THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN NEVER BE CONNECTED TO A HUMAN OPERATOR!
Think about that! An expensive automated phone system that literally prevents people from ever reaching you! Amazing!
