Cannot change address or deposit information - phone call ends without notice or they say call the office which is now closed - and it is within office hours. I am completely frustrated to say the least!!
Is this the best our government can do???
First I would like to state that, I am very grateful for all Public service employees that work hard for us and treat us with kindness and respect and show patience with us that are new to public assistance and how it works. I myself am not familiar with all the inner workings of this process. I have worked my entire life starting at 14 y/o, and always paid my taxes to the state and Federal government. I never was on welfare and benefits until December 2019 after I got terminally ill in 2017, and all my savings were completely gone. With 3 kids to support, 1 with serve autism and another that has been battling leukemia for 6 years, and my youngest with blindness in one eye that affects her learning. I was also abandoned by my husband of 20 years who cleared out all of my life savings and let me lose my home, car, business, medical insurance, sense of security for my kids and faith in humanity all while fighting for my life. I am now homeless with my kids and living out of my car in Missouri and my parents live in kansas, with no place to receive mail, and to report my change in housing status, I called the SSA hotline and did this as required. A few days later I received a call from a woman at the SSA Lenexa Kansas Office. I was asked about what I had reported earlier, she asked questions but before I could answer them fully she would interrupt me and ask another question, and started asking me about what I spent my ssi payments on, I informed her that I was not able to answer her questions because I was driving at the time and I didn't have my receipts and info in front of me and I didn't want to give information that I was not completely sure about. She asked about my living situation and confirmed that I was still living in Missouri and only using my parents kansas address for mail. She was very rude and annoyed with me and said "I got what I need" and hung up on me. A few days later I got a letter saying my income went up and I was losing around $550 a month, I have 2 kids still at home, homeless and on receiving a total of $1487 a month for me and my sons ssi and they drop it to $900 because I don't have a place to live. I was already so depressed and worried about how I would be able to survive. I almost committed suicide. I called SSA hotline again and I got a lady on the call who for the first time in 2 years treated me like I was a human being that deserved respect and kindness from every government agency I came in contact with. She was the only one. She was the reason I didn't take my own life that day. She told me that I shouldn't have lost any ssi income and that I had to call the lenexa office to find out why I was done this way, I did and I also talked with a very nice gentleman who said I would receive a call from a Mrs. Woods that day to explain why I was not getting my full amount because I should have, and I could correct it. She never called it's been 11 days and nothing, I got her voice mail extension and have called and left messages and still nothing, not even a letter from them. I need to fix this because I am unable to get a home for me and my family. This is wrong. Please help us.
Got a callback from a representative happened to be an African-American man. Was very rude didn’t know what I was talking about and hung up on me. All I wanted was a number to get a hold of a facility close to me to make an appointment. Said I couldn’t do that I had to work with him or not at all
Re: widows benefits...I have made 3 calls to ssa regarding 2 payments that ssa owes to me. The first two people said I would have it in 7-10 days. Nothing. The third call was today, 10-16 where the lady told me that I won't have it until the end of the year!!!!! I lost my job and have no income! I need that money! If I owed THEM, they would be hounding me for it! Not fair at all.
Called Social Security office on 11/15/2016 waited on hold for 45 min, Spoke to a man (did not state Name) He stated that I was committing fraud, stated that I could not speak to his supervisor and stated what part of no do you not under stand. When all this is said he never received the Social nor Rep Payee information and still stated Fraud was being committed and that he would then not transfer me. then hung up of the phone. Im sorry but if this is how staff are trained then this needs to be changed.
I have not received my SS automatic deposit for this month.
On the general SSA website, it says the office hour for today 9-4. why it is different in this website (9-3)? Thank you so much

This is in reference of a letter from your office dated Dec. 15, 2014. I was told to submit a copy of my 2015 1040 tax return in 2016 to document my MAGI income for that year.May I mail you my 1040 as proof of last year's income? I am widowed and my SS# ends in 1320. I could also come to Lenexa, if I could get an appointment. Please advise. I appreciate your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Christl Upchurch
My experience with the local Lenexa, KS SSA office is excellent! Apart from a 10-min. wait (I would say, nothing in comparison with even local telecom companies), I have been helped thoroughly and in full. Brent is the name of the gentleman, who helped me with my issues over the phone - saving my elderly and frail mom's visit to the office. I hope the SSA takes a note: diligent and hard working SSA employees have to be further encouraged and rewarded for good job they do!
