Was born Feb. 1935 would I qualify for some of the money also information about the new card.

My mother passed away January 31st 2010. My father was never paid her death benefit. If I take her death certificate along with ss number is that all I will need to get that for my father? Or is this something I can do on line or over the phone? Please advise, thank you for you time.
